The Different Types of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and Its Advantages is an automatic program of the computer that can be used to control the operation of the machine. The use of CNC can minimalize the involvement of manual operations. CNC can be used for controlling several types of machines such as boring tools, drills, and others. The CNC program will set the machine to create the desired shape or cut the materials with a specific size and shape automatically. Some materials that can be processed by using CNC programs are ceramic, plastic, composites, metals, and others. Since there is no manual operation, CNC is often used in industry to increase the yield of products and reduce human error. The CNC program is equipped with two types of coding programs that are G-code and M-code. Those coding can be made by the IT staff or generated by Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. The CAD is often used since it’s so practical and doesn’t need a long process.
The CNC machine can be differentiated into different types. For example, a multi-spindle machine. This CNC machine is often used in mass-scale production. The multi-spindle machine can cut materials into some small pieces accurately. In addition, this CNC machine also does the diversion process of tooling. Like its name, the drum of this CNC machine is designed with multiple spindles. The drum is rotated through the horizontal and vertical axis. The rotation direction of the drum depends on the desired shape. Another example of a CNC machine is Sinker EDM. It’s also known as volume EDM. This CNC machine is designed with the electrode and workpiece in the dielectric fluid. The suitable power supply connects the workpiece and electrode. Like its name, the power supply will produce the electrical between electrode and workpiece. Then, there will be a dielectric breakdown that can be used to produce the plasma channel. The plasma will be used for cutting the materials.
Nowadays, the usage of the CNC program and machine is getting massive especially in the industry. Why? The CNC program is proven as a method with a lot of advantages such as the CNC can be operated for 24 hours a day. It means the production process will be conducted nonstop. So, the productivity will be higher than the manual operation. In addition, the CNC can produce higher accuracy and better precision than manual operations. The CNC also can produce a faster process than manual operation since it will be operated by machines.
