SM-023: CNC Mini-Series Episode 5
Video Info:
This is Episode 5 in a CNC Tutorial Mini-Series where I'll be
replicating a DC-Motor CamShaft which was previously professionally
milled with my TAIG CNC.In this episode, I've fixed my offset glitch
from the previous episode. I show how I can "find my zero" each time I
reinsert the part in the vice (very important for precision,
finish-quality, and for when I flip the part!). I then start profiling
the outside edge of the part with a 1/8" endmill. I let the part and
endmill get TOO hot and suffered severe chip welding, which broke the
end mill (which only costs ~$3, so not a big deal). I've learned that
I'll need to use more coolant/lubricant in the future and/or add a
"pause" to the milling operation.
This tutorial is a comprehensive
walkthrough - soup to nuts. Future episodes will include CAD, CAM,
toolpath creation, Feeds & Speeds, Fixturing, and operating the
TAIG mill!
