CNC Stomp Pad 9 - Drill Holes - CNC Video Tutorial - CNC Videos

Video Info:
In this video we drill the holes in our CNC Stomp Pad. We need to add the traction spikes and they are really a screw and nut. We drill the holes then clean them out.
We bend the stomp pad while drilling and we must hammer it flat next.
A quick DA Sanding to make the pad look good, then we are on the the next step which is finalizing the CNC stomp pad.

Video Transcript:

I’m Ivan Irons from www.cncinformation.com and in our next video we will drill some of those holes that we laid out in the last video. We need these holes drilled so we can later put the traction spikes on. Here I am just going through and looking at the size of the screws. I'm trying to get a bit that's just a little bit oversized. Later this will be kind of a mistake and I will bore these holes out. But for right, I was just trying to get a little bit oversized. Here I am at my drill press with the bit end hooked up. I have this stomp pad there with all of the different holds laid out.  I am adjusting the table a to the correct height. I just locked it down so that the table won’t more around. Here I go into it. One interesting thing about this aluminum is that as I was drilling, it would actually flex and bend which later we go back and I flatten this out. Here I am checking, you’ll notice that that whole is not big enough, so I will probably make a few changes to that. It will take me a little bit to drill out these holes and there is really nothing special about it. Aluminum is pretty easy to drill as it is soft. Next we have to clean that up those holes that we drilled. Aluminum is pretty soft and it pushes extrusions out the back and we need to clean that up. I have a deburring tool. This is a pretty common tool if you are a machinist in any way shape or form. It takes off a lot of machined edges and for $10 you can get them about anywhere. They are good to cleanout holes and edges of machine parts. I'm using it so I don't have to re-grind and that’s mainly it.  When we were drilling those holes, that aluminum is pretty thin and there was a lot on a woman's pretty been in there was a lot unsupported areas and it bent the stomp bad. So all I am doing is using a dead blow hammer to hammer it flat. What you are really going for are the bend points. You'll see I tap on it a little bit to see how much it is really sticking up. Solid flat hammer blows work the best.  I do a quick sand and that’s about it. If you have questions, visit www.cncinformation.com.
