CNC Stomp Pad 3 - Rhino CAD- CNC Video Tutorial - CNC Videos

Video Info:
In this CNC Tutorial Video we go over the design in CAD. We resize it to our dimensions and then convert it into a DXF File. Finally the DXF File is ready for CAM.

Video Transcript:
Here we are, over and rhino 3-D. I use rhino as my CAD program. My type of work that I do is right on the edge between art and in the between cad somewhere and this is a good 3-D program for that.

First we will import our image that we've been working with. You will see the design. This is a specific template that I use so I know the sizing. It is actually very small right now. One of the reasons that I use rhino is to resize whatever it is I am going to cut out. I can come in here and I can do precise sizing.

Talking with my buddy, it’s going to be about 9 or 10-inch design that we are going to go with. When you start, lets start by doing that. Probably the quickest and easiest thing you can do is start by making a parameter. Up here in the corner its about 9x9 so we will go with that. That square that we have there is 9" x 9".

You can do a lot of things now and one of them is we can center the design. I do a number of different things one is scale. Probably what you are not seeing on your screen are the number of toolbars that I have on a dual monitor setup so it's a little bit different.

Its over to the side so at times my mouse will disappear and really what I'm doing is going off and picking a tool and then I comeback on. Here I just have the scale and we’re going to scale up this design a little bit more, just a notch or two. We’re going to use the scale for this design. We’re going to scale up this designs to make a little bit bigger and I can bring it back down.  Usually when you are doing art parts and things like that, it's not exactly perfect.

You can be off a little bit here and there just because the way the design is. I’m going to shrink this down just a little bit more to make it fit inside this 9 x 9 box. There we go, our design fits inside of that box now. It’s not perfect but when the design is a non-square, it never will be. This is just giving us a look so at what we are going to see when we cut out this on a CNC Plasma cutter.

I just erased that square around it and let me save this out is as a DXF file so we can use it. DXF files are the standard as you shuttle things back and forth here. We go over and bring that into sheetcam and then start defining those machining parameters at that point.
