I am new to this forum...so hi to all you folks!
I am in the process of learning how to use blogs...so bear with me...its all new to me.
I have a background in the manufacturing and engineering of custom material handling equipment. Our shop has: laser, press break, VMC and some manual mills and lathes all of which I have access to at any time after work hours. I am fluent (but not an expert) in M&G code, Solid works (cad) and Surfcam(cam) and can also run all the machines above.
I am needing help with sizing the servos for my gantry mill i am building for a home venture. And also need some links or contacts for very cost effective servos for this build.
I do not feel good about asking for help given that it is my first time to post, but I figure i gotta start sometime. the mor i learn the more i will be able to help others.
Equipment spec's:
I have 220v single phase available at 60 amps and can be increased (amps).
X travel=120"
Y travel=60"
Z travel=20"
It is a Gantry design with the gantry weighing 300 lbs, and the rapid will need to be not less than 500 in/min in X axis (@ 300 lbs). The Y axis is carrying 100 lbs, and the Z axis will carry 20 lbs.
The inertial loads in reference to the KW rating of the servo is my biggest road block. The next issue will be what is easier to deal with: incremental encoders or absolute.
