Introduction 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hi all,
I don't know much (if anything) about cnc. I have a small machine, VCarve and Bobcad software and NO knowledge.
I hope to use this forum as a stepping stone to learn about cnc and understanding these programs.
I don't have a whole lot of time to devote to this as I am in business so I'll do what I can.
This sounds like it will be an enjoyable experience.
Nice to meet y'all,
Frank

Hello Frank,

Good to have you here. There will be a lot of tricks you can pick up here and in the articles/videos on the main site. As you learn some tips, feel free to share them. I find new members to CNC very interesting as they ask all sorts of questions that I forgot I asked too. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Have a good one,
Ivan

Re:Introduction 8 Months, 1 Week ago
Hello all,
Well, this the first time I was able to post anything, had to figure out how it worked. I went through the vidoes, interesting, learn a few things already. I have been around a machine shop for most of my career as a maintenance mechanic.
I started out taking a couple of machine tool tech classes at the JC and that is as far as I got, learned enough to get by. As I worked in a bakery as a mechanic I would make parts from time to time, went to a creamery (milk plant)
and did the same there, got back into plastics and now I'm a maint. manager in a place that does custom manufacturing. We make some medical items, body bags (post mortim containers), out door goodies for kayaking and paddle sports, to just about whatever a customer wants. We do this with high freaquency welding machines ( RF welding) dielecric welding, it's like bonding plastics with a microwave oven if you know what I mean.
Anyway, we do all of our own tolling and we use regular shop tools mill, lathe, we also have a Bridgeport VMC 1000/22 milling machine with a DX 32 controller, we use Featurecam for the drawing conversion and post process. I have only ran the thing 1 time in manual, and once from useing the cam software to make a test part. So this is where I'm at, not sure what I'm doing. Are you or anyone here familure with either of these componets?
Well there it is, a book on my first post, how about that?
Vern.
