Here is my take, others chime in. In my experience, G-Code and M-Codes are so specific to the CAM/CNC Machine Combo, that a lot of the "rules" go out the window. These are the ISO Codes, but there are tons of differences.
Here is my take: M02 - could be used to stop the program from executing. Possible quality check, tool wear check, tool change, etc. M30 - Ends the program, final line to stop the execution. Tells the machine to stop. Most times this also "rewinds" the program back to the start. In the meantime, you load another part and start the cycle again. That way the program is ready to run again.
