Hello Rsupreme,

Yes you can use a Drill Press as a mill. In fact, there are a number of manufacturers that make cross slides for that purpose. The spindle is stationary and you move the part around with the cross slides.

Have a good one,
Ivan

[hello Ivan, Thanks for the reply, yes I have recently purchased purchased a vise with x and y travel. I'm sure any milling done this way may not be extremely accurate, but should do until I purchase an all-in-one cnc machine. Thanks again will talk soon....Randyb][/b]

I would recommend, if you intend to use an endmill, other than plunge cutting, that you buy an end mill holder with the morse taper to fit your drill press. That will save your drill chuck. End mills often turn in the drill chuck causing damage to the jaws of the chuck. Just search in your browser for Morse taper end mill holder. I think they are about 20 bucks or so.

Re:???? 3 Weeks, 3 Days ago
Please keep in mind the limitation of cutting tool diameter. I have been in shops when a 3" dia insert milling cutter has been mounted on a limited horse power machine and it is ugly for both machine & operator. Not seeing your unit, I would safley recommend 1/2" diameter tool max and proper # of flutes for material being cut.
be safe,
Robert
