which is the better [XYZ] drive motor, stepper or servo? can someone explain why?

Servo are the better type motor. Servo motors provide closed loop controls which provide feedback and track where it is on the machine. The servo motors also have the ability to correct themselves automatically for better accuracy and power depending on the job. They are more precise, less noisy, although more expensive.

Servo motors are generally found in 4 or 5 axis CNC routers.
