I think that with a tool changer you can save time. There are many different bits which do different job.Apart from cutting different materials they also produce different cuts according to their shape.
For example you can use a bit just for shaping your material and then you can use another bit for details.

My question is that the tool changer is just for saving time or it has and other functionality?

The differnt tools that would be loaded would really depend on what machine you have it on. For example, if it was a lathe, it could have a drill bit, cutting tool, boring head. On a mill it may have end mills, drill, fly cutter, etc.

The idea is to save time. When I use my Bridgeport Clone at home, I dread changing tools. I try to do every operation possible before changing. Then I finally change.

If you have your machine set up right, it will change tools on the fly and also know right where it is at.

Have a good one,
Ivan

Re:12 position tool changer 3 Months, 1 Week ago
useing a haas vmc i have a 20 tool changer although theres never 20 tools in it onli the ones that are being used for the job .
although T1 is always kept for a spot drill and T20 is kept empty for useing an edgefinder or clock .
and just recently ive been useing a long series drill about 10inches long so it was stored in T16 so it was out of the way of the job when the other tools were being used instead of haveing to take it out after every use .
but everything else sits between T2 and T6 with T1 being a spotdrill.

to note im just learning from scratch as im going along and now beginging to learn to programe more that 1 offset into a programe for combinations of useing either 2 different vices at once for 2 opperations or a chuck and a vice hench more than 1 offset .
but still programing in absolute and not tried incremental yet .
