Hi,

I have a new milling machine coming in a few days. The Syil X4 Plus with all options, including stand. I am assuming that the total weight will be about 250Kg. I live in Japan and we do now have much room here. I live in a house and my home lab is on the 2nd floor. The house is 3 years old.

Can anyone tell me if this machine will fall through the roof to the first floor? Has anyone here had experience with doing this before?

I really didn't think much about this when I ordered it. However, when the Japan supplier sent me email today telling me to get either a fork lift or a lot of people to help move this thing. I was shocked, still shocked. This makes me worry if my 2nd floor can support this thing.

Any help would be appreciated.

You should be fine, but if it really concerns you(The floor starts to creak!) then you could distribute the weight by setting it on a couple of 2x4 (Or whatever dimension) lumber. If you get a couple planks of lumber going across the floor joists you should be good.

Thanks for the info. Actually we couldn't figure out how to get the darn thing up the stairs. So I put it in the garage. Probably better any how.

Hey Will, I am in Japan too (tool and die), I have no idea what kind of machine that is you are talking about....250KG is not that much weight, you should be fine, thats around what a piano is, probably just the guys need heavy equipment to install and move it, make sure they level it out too or it will be way off and have no meaning of being CNC if you need precision. I am in the Nagoya (Toyota) area...one thing I would be worried about more than weight is the sound and vibrations and also about oil and coolant, not to mention chips...are you going to be living in the same place? You must have a very understanding wife.

Due to vibration, the garage will be better. Unless you are machining small parts & using light cuts (which I suspect you are), the lack of a solid foundation would affect the quality of a cut.

Vibrations? That is very interesting. Why didn't I think of that. Actually I am now glad it went to the garage. I am doing quite large parts. Funny how the smallest things can really mess things up.
