Programming of CNC Machines

Product Description
Written in simple, easy-to-understand language by skilled programmers with years of experience teaching CNC machining to the industry and in formal education settings, this new edition provides full descriptions of many operation and programming functions and illustrates their practical applications through examples. It provides in-depth information on how to program turning and milling machines, which is applicable to almost all control systems. It keeps all theoretical explanations to a minimum throughout so that they do not distort an understanding of the programming. And because of the wide range of information available about the selection of tools, cutting speeds, and the technology of machining, it is sure to benefit engineers, programmers, supervisors, and machine operators who need ready access to information that will solve CNC operation and programming problems. This third edition of an already proven effective text offers detailed coverage of subjects not addressed by the majority of existing texts.

Distinctive Features
– Contains expanded sections on CAD/CAM and Conversational Programming that offer insight into the modern methods of CNC programming.
– Includes a modern CNC controller representation in the Operation Section.
– Thoroughly describes mathematical formula usage necessary for creating programs manually.
– Provides practical examples and study questions throughout, allowing users to demonstrate their proficiency.
– Features improved blueprints and drawings created to ANSI standards in order to improve clarity.
– Offers a glossary of terminology and useful technical data and charts needed for effective programming.
– Illustrates how to create each programming example through clear step-by-step presentations.
– The only textbook that covers edgeCAM CAD/CAM Programming. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) has adopted edgeCAM as the CAD/CAM program they use in their Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) courses taught at high schools across the nation.
– Includes the latest version of Mastercam–Mastercam X

Programming of CNC Machines

How much does it cost to CNC machine a part?

It is a 304 stainless disk with a threaded hole.
Fairly large 58mm wide by 20mm high.
That’s about it.

For a quantity of 100 I’m getting a quote of 11.49 ea.
I know metals are expensive now, but As per the shop, only about $4.50 of that is the steel.
Seems like $7 ea. is A LOT for machining.

Is this too much to pay?
What is a fair price?

blacktoe CNC machine kit demonstration

This is a demonstration of the blacktoe CNC router kit found at buildyourcnc.com. In this demonstration, the CNC machine is cutting various shapes into a sheet of MDF (medium density fiberboard). The blacktoe CNC router is made of MDF and is a machine to enable hobbyists to fabricate on a modest budget. This machine is also the perfect platform from which to learn mechanics, control, and CNC or NC programming. Perfect for academic institutions.

Build Your Own CNC Machine

  • ISBN13: 9781430224891
  • Condition: NEW
  • Notes: Brand New from Publisher. No Remainder Mark.

Product Description

Do you like to build things? Are you ever frustrated at having to compromise your designs to fit whatever parts happen to be available? Would you like to fabricate your own parts? Build Your Own CNC Machine is the book to get you started. CNC expert Patrick Hood-Daniel and best-selling author James Kelly team up to show you how to construct your very own CNC machine. Then they go on to show you how to use it, how to document your designs in Computer-Aided Design programs, and how to output your designs as specifications and tool paths that feed into the CNC machine, controlling it as it builds whatever parts your imagination can dream up.

Don’t be intimidated by abbreviations like CNC and terms like Computer-Aided Design. Patrick and James have chosen a CNC-machine design that is simple to fabricate. You need only basic woodworking skills and a budget of perhaps $500 to $1,000 to spend on the wood, a router, and various other parts that you’ll need. With some patience and some follow-through, you’ll soon be up and running with a really fun machine that’ll unleash your creativity and turn your imagination into physical reality.

  • The authors go on to show you how to test your machine, including configuring the software.
  • Provides links for learning how to design and mill whatever you can dream up
  • The perfect parent/child project that is also suitable for scouting groups, clubs, school shop classes, and other organizations that benefit from projects that foster skills development and teamwork
  • No unusual tools needed beyond a circular saw and what you likely already have in your home toolbox
  • Teaches you to design and mill your very own wooden and aluminum parts, toys, gadgets—whatever you can dream up

What you’ll learn

  • Build your very own CNC machine
  • Learn about linear movement and motion transmission
