What Welder to get?
Brian B asked:
I am looking into getting a welder and need help selecting a model. I need a very versatile welder, since I will be welding a large variety of materials and thicknesses. At the least, I need something that can weld thin metal (automobile exhaust, maybe stainless) and weld up to 1/2″ steel. I would also like to be able to weld aluminum. What would make the best welder for this type of versatility. Also, what would be a good plasma cutter? Thanks

Which is the best router blade to produce a rough cut surface?
Antony G asked:
I’m looking to use a CNC router table to flycut the top surface of some wood. Importantly, I need the surface to end up quite rough e.g the type of rough cut surface you would get from cutting some wood using a circular saw (but without any machining marks). Which router blade should I use to achieve this? Or is it more a case of reducing the router cutting speed. Whenever I have used a router to cut wood, the cut surfaces have been left quite smooth.
The cut top surface of the wood needs to have no machining marks. This is the main reason why I’m considering using a router. When I have cut wood using a circular saw, I really like the slightly rough texture and look but unfortunately you also get faint machining marks which I don’t want.

I have tried planing but it leaves the wood too smooth.

CNC Router – Need help with bits, feed speeds, etc?
Chris Fulton asked:
I have a newly built CNC router. Its built off of the HobbyCNC plans. It has a HobbyCNC controler (3 axis) with 305oz motors. The ‘router’ is a trim router that takes 1/4″ bits.

I’m looking for help with some guidelines regarding selecing the right bit, plunge rate and feed speed. I’m cutting some 1/2″ maple, but also want to cut and engrave acrylic.
Is there someplace that gives this type of info?

Can a CNC router equipped with a laser or plasma cutter cleanly cut aluminum diamond plate?
Kevin O asked:
I’d like to cut some designs in aluminum diamond plate and I was curious to know if a CNC router with a laser or plasma torch could do the job. I know a waterjet works pretty well, but the price of the machine is currently not in my budget. Thanks!
